sofar... deathabuse

deathabuse Logo

deathabuse as an idea has been with me for a really long time. I
registed "deathabuse.neocities.org" on November 11th, 2018. I
heard the term deathabuse somewhere before, searching for it online
now shows that it was a speedrunning term and that's most likely
where I heard it. The Neocities site was just a page for me to
test HTML which I tried for about a day and then forgot about it.

At some point I made a few more webpages and most of it is
content that is on this website. I moved everything over at some
point. But this site would also be dormant until sometime in
October 2025.

deathabuse was dormant for years, then I had the idea of
turning it into a music label. My friends & I had been dabbling
in music for about a year at this point but it ammounted to a
sub 5 minute EP with whimsical songs with no consistent theme
at all. That release is The Munch. It was fun messing around
with my friends making music, but this was at the tail end of high
school. In a couple of months more than half of the friend group
would be off to university.

The Code

deathabuse was officially resurrected on September 8th, 2023 with
the release of The Code by W. Smith. It was a short experimental
electronic track my friend had made with samples in Audacity. He asked
me to create the cover art for it and I did so in GIMP with the
paintbrush tool. For some reason I decided that these early
singles should have a little block at the bottom with the name
of the label and a catalog number. I dunno, I think I just wanted
some consistent branding; sort of what Tzadik does on most releases.
As per his request it was a free track thus we would not appear in
Bandcamp tags (you have to at least be marked as "pay what you want"
to show up).

A couple months later W. Smith would release Sin of Education.
The cover art was also done by me and this time it
thematically fit with the track. I forget if he was calling it that by
the first track but I tagged this track as "creep house". He still hasn't
explained to me what that is. Since this release deathabuse has gone
cold. I've had a metric ton of musical ideas over the past couple of
years but I have yet to inact them. My first excuse was college, then
my next excuse was work and now I don't really have a valid excuse I
just haven't played an instrument in years.

deathabuse as it is today.
