While the sounds on Endtroducing lean more towards Trip Hop than Hip-Hop to my ear, I can still understand how influential this album was to hip-hop as a whole. After Paul's Boutique this was the next logical step to hip-hop sampling. Later on we would then have The Avalanches and Impossible Nothing but Shadow makes extensive sampling extremely listenable. It really is an artform within an artform. Some artists will sample everything under the sun but if it sounds more like an esoteric Instragram meme then a song, most will pass.
Here, these songs features possibly hundreds of samples each and are expertly crafted and well sequenced 5+ minute songs. This is extremely impressive from just a technical stand point but some of these tracks really are great hip-hop instrumentals along with some mellow trip hop songs. Stem / Long Stem is one of the best long form electronic songs ever and Midnight in a Perfect World is a great downtempo song to chill out to. This album has a lot of themes and a lot of moods and nails all of them, while being really fun and interesting to nerd out to; searching for samples and all.
